M&G is a technology and manufacturing company specialized in research and production of specialized paint for car manufacturing and other industrial uses. This headquarters office is located in its new campus in Nantong, and is going to house its chemical engineering team and the management administration teams. The goal of this project is to create an innovative mixed-use office building to serve the new corporate identity for the company while providing various amenities for workers in the Nantong manufacturing campus to use. Our design starts with glass boxes with several inward “cut-outs” on the facades to create spaces for “breathing” and connections to the outdoors. Two types of glass curtain walls are applied to allow different transparency and visibilities according to the program’s functionality inside. The first floor of the building is designed to serve the “public”, and it houses an exhibition space, a dinning hall, and large shower rooms for workers on the campus to take showers after work. The roof-top terrace located on the top floor is connected to the community space nearby and serves as a hub for employees to relax during the work day.
